Primal Scream. We lose the house. Things fall apart. 2023. (SOLD)
Collage on Rivoli off-white paper backed with foam board. Self-portrait of the artist taken on their iPhone, printed and cut-out. You see only the lower half of the artist’s body. Clipping of a child’s smock from previously mentioned book BIRTH. A sticker of a butterfly from John Derian’s sticker book cut in two and drawn on with archival black ink pen and archival water-soluble wax pastels in black and white. The “neck” is a clipping from the book MEDITATIONS ON THE GIFT OF SEXUALITY (images by Reverend Laird Sutton) published in 1977. Niamh thanks Rev. Laird for the photograph of the penis she used for the neck. Niamh suggests finding a copy of the book as it is ahead of its time or as Niamh said “What’s happened to Christianity? These Reverends were up on homosexuality, quoting the Bible in support of it, talking about psychoanalysis, as well as embracing sex with disabled people in the chapter We Want Sex: The Sexual Minorities; it’s a conversation seemingly too taboo to have now though perhaps I am wrong about that. The corresponding image of an orgy is beautiful.” Clipping of a person screaming taken from a book called THEATRE (Third Edition) by Robert Cohen, published in 1994, which contained many small square photos of theatre actor’s faces in different states of dramatic expression. Most of these faces didn’t end up in the series and so the artist has hundreds of these tiny intense facial expression clippings that they occasionally find while cleaning their apartment.
